Preparing Your Resume:

There are many resources on the internet to assist you in putting together an attractive and functional resume.  Use Google, YouTube, or whatever resources suit your needs.  Some important points to remember:

  • Ensure no spellling errors
  • Have a “Summary” section as the first section.  Cite your expertise, strengths, and level of experience
  • Be clear and concise of your technical, professional, and team leadership experience
  • Be flattering without embelishing
  • Include publications, patents, book chapters, etc., in a “Publications” section
  • If you were with a company for less than 3 (three) years, put the reason for leaving as the last bit of information in that employment detail

Preparing your Scientific Presentation:

In preparing yourself for the interview, sometimes you will be asked to give either a detailed scientific talk, or a summary talk about your technical expertise.

Phone Interview Suggestions:

The phone  interview will usually be arranged by the Search Consultant to occur at a prearranged time, and appropriate phone numbers and times will be concluded.  Below are a list of things to keep in mind during the phone interview, if possible:

  • Show enthusiasm.  Remember that you don’t have the advantage of body language
  • Hold the receiver well.  The mouthpiece should be 5 cm from your lips.  Speak normally or a notch slower
  • Make sure there is no background music
  • Switch off your mobile phone
  • Lock away your pets
  • Turn off your computer speakers
  • Make a list of things to say and of your strengths and keep them handy
  • Never discuss confidential/proprietary information from current or past employers
  • Try not to discuss remuneration
  • Ask what the next steps will be, and be cordial and cheerful
